How To Get The Most Out Of Your Dance Class

We will keep you informed of upcoming events etc via newsletters, which will be emailed and will also be available on this site.
It is advisable to arrive at least 5 minutes before class is due to start so students are changed and ready on time. Students of Pre Elementary Level and above should arrive at least 15 minutes prior so they have sufficient time to begin a personal warm-up.

When Waiting For Classes
In consideration of others could students please wait outside the studio until your class is called.
Safety and Supervision
Parents - please try to be on time to collect your children. Please ask your children to wait quietly inside the building rather than out in the car park. Please do not leave other children unattended at the studio - we cannot and will not assume responsibility for supervison of any children other than the students in the class we are teaching.

Dance Attire for Ballet Students
Girls: Please come to ballet dressed neatly with long hair tied up in a plait, bun or similar as appropriate. Dance clothing and shoes are available at "The Dancers Wardrobe" Remuera Mall, 319 Remuera Rd. http://thedancerswardrobe.co.nz/ For safety reasons no jewellery please other than small stud earrings.       
Levels 1 - 2:
A leotard (of any colour), short white ankle socks or pink ballet tights with well fitting pink ballet shoes (they need to fit like a sock). We recommend a crossover ballet cardigan for the colder weather.
Levels 3 - 8:
As for Levels 1 - 2 plus a character skirt and shoes . By Level 4 girls should tie long hair up in a bun please.
Pre Elementary and Up:
Please come suitably dressed as for Levels 3 - 8. Please tie long hair in a bun .
Comfortable dance clothing with long hair tied back.
Ballet: Please come suitably dressed in black tights or shorts and short white ankle socks with a T-shirt and well fitting black ballet shoes.

Dance Attire for Contemporary Dance Students:
Please wear suitable dance clothing - stretch leggings and top are recommended. Tie long hair back neatly. Ballet shoes are not recommended. Please bring a pair of socks.






Water Bottles
Please bring a named bottle of water to class especially during the humid summer months.

As an exam and competition-free community, we encourage our young people to support one another and to develop their sense of confidence, technique and creativity in a healthy environment for all. In order for our community to work together in a fun and positive environment, we expect our members to behave in a manner that supports this philosophy.

Our Expectations

1. Kindness: To interact with one another in a kind and respectful manner

2. Communication: To communicate with others using respectful language and intent in person, online, inside and outside of the session

3. Participation and Focus: To participate in the task at hand for your own development as well as to support others

4. Respect: To show respect for the instructors, other students and oneself

5. Safety: To follow studio rules regarding safety, including but not limited to: staying in the designated space, communicating with staff about bathroom breaks and staying away from the stage unless advised otherwise by staff

Disallowed Behaviours

1. Speaking in a disrespectful manner to others; including but not limited to: put downs and physical actions of disrespect - in person, online, inside and outside of the session 

2. Frequently distracting others 

3. A lack of participation 

4. Disengagement with general class rules

Course of Action

We strive to work closely with families in a communicative way to encourage students to work positively within these expectations. We do however, reserve the right to refuse a student access to classes at Step Beyond Studios if we feel they are unable to adhere to our policy.
